The replacement for the aging Ferrari California has finally made its much-anticipated public debut two weeks before its official public unveiling at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The new California T opens up a new chapter for Ferrari, as this is the first modern Ferrari to come with a turbocharged engine. The last turbocharged Ferrari was the legendary F40 made from 1987 to 1992.

The new Ferrari California T is a mid-front engined, 3.9-litre V8 with a Berlinetta body style and a retractable metal folding roof. The 2015 Ferrari California T will be powered with a 560PS engine as compared to the older 490PS that the California offered. The new engine will also produce about 755Nm of peak torque, which is a 50 per cent boost over the model it replaces. Ferrari also claims an overall fuel efficiency increase by about 15 per cent over the last generation California.

Ferrari claims to have taken cues from the new turbocharged Formula 1 engine during the design and development of the California T's road going twin-turbo V8. Ferrari also claims that the new California T gets one of the best sounding production exhaust notes to have been produced by a turbocharged engine.

The exterior too has gone through a radical redesign while staying true to the way the California looks in a way. The inspiration from older cars like the legendary Ferrari 250 Testarossa is pretty obvious with the California T's new 'Pontoon' style rear fenders. The new headlights coupled with the new sportier bumper and the large intakes in the hood; too, add to the sheer beauty of this new Ferrari. The rear end has gone through the biggest change with the controversial older vertically stacked exhausts and large lamps finally making an exit. They have been replaced by a design that seems to be incorporated from the Ferrari F12 with its quad exhausts and a large diffuser.

The new California should cost in the range of Rs 1.5-2 crore exclusive of taxes and should be seen in showrooms in parts of Europe, North America and the Middle East by the end of this year. We expect the California T to do exceedingly well considering the 2+2 seater configuration coupled with its metal folding roof, and of course, the new turbocharged V8 engine.
