Ford has two mega products up its sleeve to play the numbers game in India. The first one is the sub-4 metre compact sedan, the Figo Aspire we reviewed recently and the next one is its hatchback sibling, the Figo. The Aspire will be launched next month but the Figo comes only towards end of year, which means there is still some time to get a good look at it. But recently pictures of the Figo hatchback have begun to surface on the internet.
The hatchback going by these first pictures looks much better proportioned compared to the Aspire, as goes the norm with this segment of cars. It will eat up on boot space though we don’t know the exact number as of now. The petal shaped taillamps look neat and the wave in the boot lid is much like the sedan. The front is gets the same chrome on grille treatment and if there’s something amiss, it’s a set of fog lamps. Rest of the car is the same.
Since the car spotted is the top of the line titanium trim, it doesn’t look like the hatchback will come with leather seats. The Aspire also comes with six airbags in top trim. It’s unclear if the hatchback will also get this set of six or just the two airbags up front. The interior is dark grey too to differentiate it from the dual tone and slightly higher positioned sedan. Instead of the black gloss finish on the dashboard, the Figo gets silver finish. Rest of the equipment should match that of the Aspire to benefit from economies of scale.
The Figo hatchback will be powered by the same set of engines as the Aspire. The petrol powered Aspire with a manual gearbox gets a 1.2-litre engine that makes 88PS of peak power and 112Nm of peak torque. The other petrol engine option, a 1.5-litre motor comes exclusively with an automatic gearbox in the Aspire. This engine in the Figo could well make it the hot hatchback that can spruce up the desirability quotient. Making 110PS of peak power and 136Nm of peak torque it is also the most powerful engine on offer. The diesel Ford Figo will come with a 1.5-litre engine that makes 100PS of peak power with 215Nm of peak torque.
