Honda has launched the all-new Jazz premium hatchback at a starting price of Rs 5.30 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The Jazz is positioned against the very popular Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA in the premium hatchback segment.
The new Jazz has a lot more localised content compared to its predecessor – about 90 percent now, 30 percent more than before, and that enables Honda to price the Jazz a lot more competitively. The previous Jazz was only offered with a petrol engine and you didn’t have much choice on the variants front but that has changed too. With the new Jazz, you get a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that has been carried forward, a 1.5-litre i-DTEC mill that powers most Hondas and a CVT for the petrol.
The petrol engine develops 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque. It comes mated with a 5-speed Manual gearbox. ARAI mileage stands at 18.7kmpl, marginally less than the 19kmpl mileage posted by the CVT. The Diesel’s specifications stand at 100PS/200Nm from the 1.5 block. ARAI rated mileage is a staggering 27.3kmpl making it the second most efficient car in India after the Celerio diesel.
The Jazz’s USP is space and flexibility. It boasts of 354 litres of boot space, the highest in its segment. With the second row ‘magic seats’ folded flat on the floor, it opens up 881 litres of storage. You can also flip those seats up or split them 60:40 to fit in a wide variety of items in that boot.
As far as design goes, the Jazz looks a lot sportier than before. It has a lot of cuts and creases all around the body as well as a big roof spoiler. The dashboard borrows heavily from the City sedan. The steering wheel is common too. You get a 6.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the top trim Jazz and a 5.2 inch colour screen on lower variants. The top variant gets further differentiation in terms of upholstery. Sportier black fabric upholstery is offered compared to beige on the lower variants. Climate control, rear parking camera height adjustable drivers seat and auto folding mirrors are other noticeable features.
