After much anticipation, Hyundai is all set to roll out its third iteration of the i20 premium hatchback in India tomorrow. There’s plenty to look forward to as the i20’s generational update is pretty massive inside and out. Here’s everything you need to know about the premium hatchback ahead of its launch:
A Sensuous Sportiness Evolution
Thankfully, the India-spec 2020 i20 will retain majority of its Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy from its European-spec counterpart. That said, it’ll feature LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs and a smaller set of alloy wheels. Other updates include a new single-piece cascading grille, revised bumpers and a swanky set of LED taillights.
Loaded To The Brim
Another major talking point for the third-gen i20 is the cabin. It's similar to the Euro-spec model with the exception of the Verna’s semi-digital instrument cluster replacing the full-colour digital display. It is also set to be loaded with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, BlueLink connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof, and a Bose sound system. Multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and a rear view camera are likely to be the features on offer.
Multiple Powertrain Combinations

Under the hood, the next-gen i20 will have 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engine options to play with. On top of that, there’s also a plethora of manual and automatic transmission combinations to choose from. That said, its most powerful 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine option will miss out on a proper manual gearbox. Instead it can be paired with Hyundai’s new 6-speed clutchless manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Here’s more about these engine-gearbox combos in detail:
