The legendary cruiser manufacturer recently trademarked the name ‘Indian Raven’ at the US and European patent offices
  • The trademark for ‘Indian Raven’ was filed earlier this week
  • It was filed under the category ‘Motorcycle and structural parts therefor’
  • This hints at an all-new motorcycle; likely to be based on the new FTR platform
  • Indian Raven trademark filing

Indian Motorcycle has filed a trademark application for the name ‘Indian Raven’ at the US and European patent offices. Filed on December 17, it also mentions the words ‘motorcycle and structural parts therefor’ under goods and services. Moreover, the word ‘Raven’ sounds ominous, just like the brand’s Dark Horse monicker. Putting these two facts together, we believe it could be an aggressively styled motorcycle based on the company’s new FTR platform. Will it be a naked derivative of the FTR to compete with Harley’s upcoming Streetfighter? Another possibility could be the development of a new power cruiser. We wouldn’t be surprised if Indian brings one of the two into the market, especially when you consider the fact that its rival, Triumph, too is working on the all-new Rocket III. Even Ducati recently revealed the new Diavel 1260.

The possibility of a sports bike seems to be unlikely if you take into account the brand’s history and inclination towards cruisers, apart from flat-track racing. Now that the whole world is moving towards electric propulsion, it’s tough to rule out the possibility of Indian Motorcycles working towards something electric, pun intended. This could give Harley’s upcoming Livewire tough competition. Though details are scarce as of now, expect to hear more about the bike next year.
