New Innovations To Keep Continuing On Renault Kwid: MD

After having introduced two new variations of the Kwid this year, Renault is intent on keeping the ball rolling with further development of its high-selling hatchback. The managing director of the French manufacturer’s Indian arm, Sumit Sawhney, revealed the company’s plans for the Kwid in a recent interview.

“(But yes,) Innovation is the buzz word. We bought AMT, 1.0-litre and will bring further innovation to the car (Kwid) in order to remain ahead,” he told DNA. He also accepted that the 98 percent localisation of the Kwid has been a key contributing factor in its success and the company plans to follow that in the future.

“It's not that only we may remain ahead. At times, competition will also get something right. But the point is that we are on our toes and want to remain ahead in the race by giving value for money to the customer. Also, most companies failed in this segment because they could not sustain the low price at which they launched their vehicle. But we have managed to do it,” he added.

Renault had debuted the Kwid 1.0 Litre SCe and Kwid Easy-R (AMT) models at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year and both the variants were rolled out for the customers during the course of this year.

It had also showcased two new concepts based on the car – the Kwid Climber and the Kwid Racer. The first is a tall off-roader that, with its high ground clearance, wide track, and specially designed tyres looks purpose-built for the job. On the other hand, the Racer, as the name suggests, is more of a performance-oriented car.
