Although the KTM 390 Duke has dominated proceedings in its segment, the Austrian bikemaker doesn’t want to stop there. Import documents have revealed that two new KTM 390 Duke motorcycles have been shipped from Austria to India R & D purpose. The headquarters of KTM is based in Austria and the bikes were listed as 390 Duke MY17 signifying that the above two motorcycles were the prototypes of the next generation KTM 390 Duke. The KTM bikes are manufactured in India at Bajaj Auto’s plant in Chakan to keep costs low while 2017 KTM 390 Duke has been designed and developed by KTM in Austria. The next generation KTM 390 Duke is likely to make its debut in the Indian two-wheeler market by 2017 but the bikes are expected to be globally unveiled at the 2016 EICMA or INTERMOT motorcycle shows by late 2016.
From the import documents we could figure out that the displacement of the 2017 KTM 390 Duke will not be increased and the bike will be powered by a 374cc motor. However it is speculated that the power output will be hiked marginally. The major change on the 2017 KTM 390 will be cosmetic updates and one can expect a more radical design language and styling. Also the chassis and cycle parts of the KTM motorcycle will be refurbished.
The KTM 390 Duke has to be among the most important motorcycles to be launched in our two-wheeler market in the recent past. As in the KTM 390 Duke Indian consumers had a respectably powerful motorcycle at an affordable price point. Apart from the aggressive pricing and bonkers performance, the KTM 390 Duke also offers top-spec cycle parts like trellis frame, USD forks and a monoshock suspension, Metzeler tyres and standard ABS that makes the motorcycle an absolute value for money proposition. It isn’t surprising then that the KTM 390 Duke has etched for itself a cult status in the Indian two-wheeler market and with the 2017 KTM 390, the orange brigade would be wishing for an encore.
