Do Not Miss It!: Our comprehensive First Drive Review of the 2018 Maruti Swift
UPDATE: Everything you need to know about the 2018 Maruti Swift
It has been known for some time now that Maruti Suzuki has been working on a revamp of the long-running Swift hatchback. Now, thanks to these images leaked by AutoExpress we have an idea of what the next generation Swift might look like. These images, allegedly from a European dealer conference held by Suzuki, indicate that the basic profile of the Swift will remain the same but with substantial styling updates both inside and out.
At the front, the new Swift gets a new headlight, new bumpers with more pronounced air scoops, and a new honeycomb grille. A darkened C-pillar creates the illusion of a floating roof, and the rear door handle has been moved up towards the C-pillar, something we’ve seen on the Chevrolet Beat and the Mahindra KUV100. With its sloping roof line, prominent side streaks, and flared wheel arches filled with redesigned alloy wheels, the new Swift has a distinctive appeal when viewed from the side. At the rear, it gets redesigned tail lamps and new bumpers.
Inside, the new Swift gets a completely redesigned dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system with the HVAC controls below it. The multifunction steering wheel is also new, as is the twin-pod instrument cluster with a small TFT cluster between it.
Motive power on the next generation Swift will come from both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine will most likely be Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre K-Series unit and the 1.0-litre Boosterjet unit, while the diesel one will be Suzuki's in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options may include 5-speed manual, an AMT or even a CVT unit.
We reckon the next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be unveiled later this year and will go on sale as a 2017 model.
