New Mazda CX-3 teased

Mazda has released the first teaser image of the CX-3, ahead of its debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Motor Show which is scheduled to take place in November. The company has been denying such a car was part of its product plan as recently as August, despite over a year of intense speculation.

Mazda has still kept the details of the car under wraps until the LA show reveal, but has confirmed that the new Mazda CX-3 will carry the brand’s ‘Kodo’ design language as the rest of its current range and sport the ‘full range of Skyactiv technology’.

The new CX-3 will be the fifth car from the Japanese carmaker that will make use of the company's Skyactiv powertrain and Kodo design language. The new car according to Mazda has evolved to produce a ‘sharper form with an enhanced sense of speed’.

The sketch reveals the front fascia which shows the new concept car flaunting a prominent grille and curvaceous bodywork. It is fitted with large wheels on the side and has a muscular rear wheel arch.

Mazda did not specify any powerplant specifications, but we expect there could be a variety of engine options including: A 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G delivering 75PS of power and 135Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G churning out 90PS of power and 148Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G i-Eloop with 115PS of power and 148Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre Skyactiv-D with 105PS of power and 220Nm of torque.

Besides confirming plans to introduce the new Mazda CX-3 in Los Angeles, the Japanese carmaker has also announced plans to stage the world debut of the facelifted Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6 at the show.
