The iconic Italian marque, which has just bought back its shares from Mercedes-AMG, is gearing up to launch an all-new powerplant in 2018
New MV Agusta Engine

MV Agusta has sent out a press release stating that it has started working on a new four-cylinder motor to replace its ageing flagship engine. The current inline-four engine made its debut with the MV Agusta F4 back in 2005 before the MV Agusta Brutale was launched with the same engine. As you can see, the litre-class motor has been waiting for a successor for a long time and even though the Italian brand has updated the powerplant over the years, it has started to show its age in the presence of modern four-cylinder mills. MV Agusta has confirmed that it will launch the new four-cylinder motor in 2018, and we are guessing it will chose the 2018 EICMA motorcycle show to showcase its new creation.

So which will be the first bike to get the new engine? While a popular choice will be the replacement to the gorgeous MV Agusta F4, the Brutale seems to be the likely candidate to get the new powertrain as it is MV Agusta’s most popular motorcycle currently on sale. It is also rumoured that the next generation four-cylinder MV Agusta engine will witness a bump in displacement to reach 1200cc. It is also highly likely that the new engine platform might makes its way to the Turismo Veloce, to take on the Ducati Multistrada 1260S and the Triumph Tiger 1200. And as for the new MV Agusta F4, well, it seems we will have to wait till at least 2019 for its replacement.

MV Agusta also announced that it has bought back the stake held by Mercedes-AMG, and now it is completely owned by MV Agusta Holding Company (controlled by Giovanni Castiglioni and the Sardarov family).
