Since making its debut in India in 2013, Triumph Motorcycles has been on a roll in witnessing a 67 per cent jump in demand in 2016. The British motorcycle maker launched the new 2017 Triumph Street Triple S in our market recently and is now gearing up to expand its portfolio. Triumph will launch the new Speed Triple, its flagship naked motorcycle, in India this September. The Speed Triple made its official debut at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy. In terms of styling, the Speed Triple carries forward the same design language as its predecessor, but gets sharper headlamps with in-built DRLs, LED turn indicators, twin seats, bar-end mirrors, a narrower but sharper-looking fuel tank and dual matte black under-seat exhaust with aluminium heat shields. The Speed Triple gets a semi-digital instrument console although we would have preferred the 5-inch TFT display seen on the recently launched Street Triple R and Street Triple RS. With competition stepping up the ante with respect to electronic goodies, the old Speed Triple was feeling a bit left out. Triumph engineers have sorted that out by loading the new bike with ride-by-wire, a slipper clutch, switchable traction control, switchable ABS and five riding modes - Rain, Road, Sport, Track and a customisable Rider mode which lets you fiddle with the throttle response, power output, ABS and traction control settings. Powering the motorcycle is a 1050cc, triple-cylinder motor developing 140PS and 112Nm of peak torque. The power is delivered to the rear-wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. The new engine is Euro-4 compliant and has been tuned to offer better power and torque spread across the entire rev range. Also Read - Triumph Bonneville Bobber Road Test Review
The aluminium twin-spar frame is suspended on adjustable Showa 43mm dia USD forks and Showa monoshock at the back with 130mm travel. Braking responsibilities are handled by a set of Brembo 320mm semi-floating discs at the front with 4-piston radial mono-block calipers at the front and a single 255mm Nissin disc brake at rear. The new Triumph Speed Triple is expected to be priced around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete with the Kawasaki Z1000, BMW S1000R, Ducati Monster 1200 and Suzuki GSX-S1000.
