The Indian scooter market is largely dominated by the Honda Activa, with the TVS Jupiter following its footsteps in terms of sales. In order to close this gap, TVS might have a trick up its sleeves. The Hosur based two-wheeler giant is currently testing a brand-new scooter, which is expected to come with a higher displacement engine.

If reports are to be believed, the new scooter might be based on the TVS Graphite scooter concept, which was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. However, from what we have seen, the test mule sports a very different design elements than the concept. The spied shots show that the new scooter does feature the angular and edgy design of the concept, but has been subdued a lot. The front apron, for instance, resembles that of the Honda Dio and the Honda Grazia

We can also see that TVS has employed telescopic forks at the front to hold together a 12-inch alloy wheel, which surprisingly enough doesn't sport a disc brake. However, it might as well be offered as an optional extra, as seen on the Jupiter. The rear section features a sharp and swept-back look, flanked by dual floating grab rails. The shark-nose styled exhaust muffler does look funky.

If reports are to be believed, the new scooter will come with a 150cc engine, as seen on the Graphite concept. However, that might not be the case. The 125cc scooter segment is already heating up with the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125 and the soon-to-be-launched Honda Grazia. It would only make sense for the Hosur-based manufacturer to produce a 125cc scooter first, before venturing into the 150cc segment.

TVS Graphite

The Graphite concept scooter showcased some interesting features like dual-channel ABS, LED console, clip-on handlebars, an AMT gearbox with paddle shifters and more. Will we see any of these features make its way on to the new scooter? Highly unlikely, but we are keeping our fingers crossed to see some segment-firsts. After all, TVS has built a reputation of equipping their scooters with loads of features.
