After considerable delays, Swedish carmaker Volvo has finally brought the S60 to India. The latest iteration of Volvo’s entry-level sedan is available at an introductory price of Rs 45.9 lakh (ex-showroom) in a sole T4 Inscription variant. It will lock horns with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series, and Audi A4.
The S60 is based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, unlike its predecessor which was based on a Ford platform. Thanks to its shared platform, the new S60 even looks like its older sibling, the S90. Design highlights like the Thor’s Hammer DRLs and the C-shaped tail lamps remain unchanged. Only the rear end gets a slightly noticeable change as compared to the S90.
Volvo, which is synonymous with safety, has equipped the S60 with a whole bunch of safety features leading to a 5-star rating from Euro NCAP. These include lane assist, road sign information, autonomous driving assists up to 130kmph, run-off road protection and mitigation, and pilot assist. It features the tablet-styled touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Under the hood, the S60 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 190PS and 300Nm. An 8-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the front wheels. The S60 will not get a diesel powertrain anytime soon.
Under its early bird booking scheme, customers will get the opportunity to be a part of the Tre Kronor (Three Crowns) Experience Programme. They will also be eligible for personalised benefits such as a dedicated Volvo relationship manager, doorstep services, and the latest offers. Bookings for the new S60 can only be made online.
