Chevrolet India has released the first images of the new Beat and its sister cars. They provide one with the idea as to how the cars will look in the real world. Though, in its new avatar, the Beat takes up an evolutionary approach rather than a full-blow aesthetic upgrade. Chevrolet plans to bring five cars this year, out of which three will be derivatives of the Beat namely -- the Beat, The Beat Essentia and the Beat Activ. The other two can be the Trailblazer facelift and the next-generation Cruze.
However, the manufacturer has dropped the idea of bringing the Spin MPV to the Indian shores. The same can be explained due to limited sales the MPV segment witnesses and also the large cost involved to prepare the manufacturing facility for the Spin’s production.
Speaking of the new Beat, it now carries a more mature design setup. The front gets a wider set of headlamps along with a new grille setup. The front wheel arches appear to be more pronounced, however, the sides see less change with the rear door handle being mounted at its old position. The rear will also witness a few cosmetic changes in order to lift its appeal. The Essentia will be a Beat with an extended boot. Moreover, if the company follows the same interior scheme from the car that was showcased in the Auto Expo, it could get cream coloured interiors.
The Beat Activ received good response at the Expo, primarily because of side cladding, beefier alloy wheels, distinct front fog lamp layout and so on. The official images of the Beat and the Essentia indicate towards missing alloy wheels, which could mean that the top-end cars won't feature them. On the inside, all of the cars are expected to get touchscreen infotainment system with their top end trims and will be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the hood, the cars are speculated to feature a new three cylinder 1.0-litre petrol motor, a downsized version of the 1.4-litre Ecotec motor available with the Spark (the Chevy’s global hatchback). On the diesel side, the upcoming Beat family will inherit the 1.0-litre diesel.
