Hyundai’s next generation Grand i10 will be called the Grand i10 Nios. Yes, as the name sounds, the new hatchback will take design inspiration from the current Grand i10. That said, it will be sold alongside the current Grand i10 and will be a more premium offering. It will slot in between the Grand i10 and the Elite i20 in the Korean carmaker’s lineup. Destined to be launched on August 20, the bookings for the Grand i10 Nios are now open for a token amount of Rs 11,000 across Hyundai dealerships and online channels. Here are all the details on the upcoming premium hatchback.

Thanks to the various test mules that have been spotted multiple times now, we have a pretty good idea of all the new changes over the current Grand i10. The Grand i10 Nios is likely to be based on a new platform, resulting in a bigger footprint. It is expected to be longer and wider than the Grand i10 and we might also see an increment in the wheelbase. It also gets redesigned headlamps, new alloy wheels and a revised set of tail lamps on the outside. A revamped version of the trademark cascading grille is the most striking element up front, while the front and rear bumpers get a different design.

As for the interiors, the Grand i10 Nios shares its parts with its siblings. Images of cabin reveal side AC vents and a gear knob borrowed from the Santro, and the steering wheel from the Venue. Like the sub-4 metre SUV, the Grand i10 Nios will also get a floating touchscreen infotainment setup. However, it remains to be seen whether the Nios will get the BlueLink connected car technology. Hyundai might also offer a toned down version of the same setup featured in the Venue.

Coming to the engine options, the Grand i10 Nios is expected to use the same 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines from the Grand i10, albeit with upgrades to meet BS6 norms. Currently, the 1.2-litre petrol engine is good for 83PS and 114Nm, while the diesel churns out 75PS and 190Nm. Both  engines are  likely to be offered in different states of tune and will be mated to an AMT and a 5-speed MT. This is the same in-house developed 5-speed AMT from the Santro and interestingly, it will be paired with both the diesel and petrol engines.

Features have always been the forte of Hyundai cars and the new Grand i10 Nios will be no different in this aspect. It is expected to come with cruise control and various other notable features to make it stand out in its segment. Also likely to be offered are features like automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity, steering wheel-mounted controls, wireless charging, and more. The Grand i10 Nios is also expected to carry over the same variant nomenclature, including  Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta.

We expect the new Grand i10 Nios to carry a premium over the Grand i10, which is priced between Rs 4.98 lakh to Rs 7.63 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It won't be surprising if Hyundai prices the Grand i10 Nios between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, it will rival the likes of the best-selling Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and the Nissan Micra.
