After a series of delays forced by the Covid-19 pandemic, Maruti Suzuki will launch the next-gen Celerio in September this year.
The hatchback, which paved the way for affordable automatics, has been due for a generation update for a long time. Thanks to the leaked patents, we know the upcoming Celerio will get quite a few updates, including a redone cabin and changes on the outside. However, a noticeable update could be to the dimensions, resulting in a more spacious cabin.
Inside, the Celerio is likely to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual airbags up front, and steering-mounted audio controls (similar to the WagonR). The hatchback could also borrow from the Swift premium features like auto climate control and a rear parking camera.
Currently, the hatch is powered by a 67PS 1.0-litre petrol engine paired with 5-speed manual and AMT options. In addition to this, the second-gen Celerio could also get the WagonR’s 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engine. However, the CNG option is likely to be restricted to just the 1.0-litre unit.
Considering all these updates, the upcoming hatch will likely be priced at a premium over the existing model, which retails from Rs 4.66 lakh to Rs 5.61 lakh (ex-showroom). It will resume its feud with the Datsun GO, Tata Tiago, and Hyundai Santro.
