Force Motors recently took the wraps off the 2021 Gurkha SUV that will be launched on September 27, 2021. Offered in a sole variant and based on an updated body-on-frame platform, this generation update sees plenty of things changed over its predecessor. Here’s everything you need to know about the off-roader in 12 real-life images:
At a glance, the next generation Gurkha could be mistaken for a G-Class in a different dressing. That’s because this off-roader gets round headlamps, a largely boxy silhouette and high stance, design traits that are more in line with older G Wagens.
Now, to what’s changed in design, the new Gurkha gets redesigned body panels, a new set of LED headlamps with circular DRLs, fog lamps, a revised front grille with “Gurkha” badging in the centre, and new glass panes for the windows and windscreens.
The generation update sees the 2021 Gurkha get a growth spurt over its predecessor. It measures 4116mm long (+124mm), 1812mm wide (+22mm), and is 2075mm tall (+20mm). Wheelbase remains unchanged at 2400mm.
It can be specced in five body shades: Red, Green, White, Orange and Grey.
Head inside and the new Gurkha looks a lot more civilised compared to its predecessor, with a dark grey upholstery with funky patterns on the seats and door panels.
The 2021 iteration of the Gurkha continues to be a three-door SUV with captain seats at the back, making it a four-seater.
Crucially, the Gurkha is no longer a barebones off-roader, and gets niceties such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a four-speaker sound system, telescopic and tilt steering, a 12V power socket, two USB sockets for front- and second-row occupants, and central locking.
Dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, follow-me-home lamps, cornering lamps, ABS with EBD, and tyre pressure monitoring are the safety features on the new Gurkha.
Under the hood of the 2021 Gurkha is a 2.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 91PS and 250Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a four-wheel drivetrain.
It comes equipped with a host of off-road trickery including front and rear anti-roll bars, an air intake snorkel, manual front and rear locking differential, and water wading capacity of 700mm. Force Motors claims it is capable of negotiating slopes of up to 35 degrees in 4x4 low first gear crawl mode.
After its September 27 launch, deliveries of the 2021 Force Gurkha will commence on the day of Dussehra, October 15. Likely to be priced around Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom), its rivals will include the Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
