While the spied test mule is heavily disguised we expect changes to the body, illumination, and dimensions.
Cabin likely to be more spacious and get additional features.
Should continue with the 0.8-litre petrol engine, paired to a manual, and an additional AMT option.
Prices likely to start from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom,Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki has a slew of models in the pipeline, one of them being the next iteration of the Alto entry-level hatchback. Now, the new entry-level model has allegedly been spotted in the country for the first time ahead of its expected launch in 2022.
The spied model is heavily disguised, so we couldn’t figure out much except that the silhouette seems identical to the current Alto.
However, we reckon the 2022 hatch will switch to the carmaker’s new Heartect platform, which also underpins the WagonR. Considering this is a generation update, expect a redesigned body and larger dimensions now that Maruti will likely leverage the new architecture.
Speaking of size, here’s how the current Alto measures up to its arch-rival, the Renault Kwid:

Now, to the cabin. Expect more space inside the 2022 Alto, thanks to the Heartect platform. Moreover, it should get some extra features while retaining things like the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, front power windows, air conditioner, keyless entry, and multi-info display.
The upcoming hatch may use the same 0.8-litre petrol engine (making 48PS/69Nm, and 41PS/60Nm in CNG) as the current model. Transmission options could include the existing 5-speed manual and a new AMT option. A more powerful 1-litre petrol engine may also be offered.
Expect the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto to retail at prices starting from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Datsun redi-GO and Renault Kwid. Maruti Suzuki is also set to bring in the next-gen Celerio later this year, followed by the much-awaited Jimny off-roader in 2022.
