Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 champion had shocked F1 enthusiasts across the globe with his retirement announcement. For someone who’s at the helm of Formula 1 racing, it is quite unusual to retire. In accordance with Rosberg stating that his biggest dream was to win an F1 championship, he accomplished the feat successfully against someone like Lewis Hamilton. So, trying to win it a second or third time seemed worthless to him, which is, hands down, awesome. In the FIA award ceremony, he even quoted that he could have continued for another season had he not won it this year.

Nico’s counterparts and people from the F1 industry, however, had some valuable reactions to spare for the moment. The best of those are:

It’s not a shock for Hamilton

Hamilton at the Abu Dhabi GP

Rosberg's teammate and the biggest contender for the 2016 F1 title wasn’t surprised with his decision. Hamilton’s reason was simple ”I have known him for a long long time”. He further went on to say that both of them had been racing alongside for a very long time and he would miss him on the track.

Ricciardo Got The Message

Australian racer and Red Bull star, Daniel Ricciardo, said that he got a message saying ”Nico just retired”. To which he replied ”Ok, which Nico?”, being confused between Rosberg and Hulkenberg who share the same name. He further said that the decision shocked him, but he understands that it’s his (Rosberg’s) decision to make. Ricciardo, funny as he is, also commented “There are pros and cons, obviously. Pros being that you go out as a champion and cons that you miss a pretty big payday the next year (of the 2017 F1 season).”

Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff said that he respects Rosberg’s decision as he would be leaving at the top of his game. He also said that Rosberg has left behind quite big shoes to fill, and the Mercedes Petronas team needs to quickly assess drivers to fill in those shoes.

The notice on Mercedes notice board

The official F1 page of Mercedes has put up a picture, which you can see below, with a caption that says: “Casually making a brew at Silver Arrows HQ...Take a glance at the tea room noticeboard...And this....” Got the pun, huh? Well, some very smart person at Merc’s office has put ‘Driver’ at the bottom of the ‘vacancies’ notice paper. Not bad you good samaritan Merc man!
