Nissan Evalia launching today at expected price of Rs 8 to 10 lakh

After making its debut at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, the Nissan Evalia is finally prepped up for launch today. The boxy bodied, seven-seater MPV is set to give tough competition to segment rivals Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and Maruti Ertiga though if priced correctly, which we reckon will be in the Rs 8-10 lakh range, it may even give the Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio a run for their money.

The Evalia will look to draw advantage from its twin USPs of space and fuel efficiency, which is an ARAI-claimed 19kmpl. The MPV employs some clever interior packaging to maximise space. For instance, the dashboard-mounted gear stick liberates more space at the front while the seats can be folded to throw open a massive 2,900 litres of boot space!

Nissan will be selling the Evalia in four variants with all of them getting a music system and more importantly, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist! And barring the base XE variant, all others feature airbags. The front-wheel drive MPV is powered by a 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine – the same unit employed on the Nissan Sunny and the more recent Renault Duster.
 
Bookings for the MUV had reportedly opened almost a week ago. Customers could make their bookings by paying an advance sum of Rs 50,000, refundable after launch just in case they change their minds.
