The Magnite is an extremely important car for Nissan as it has the hard work of reviving the brand’s fortunes in the country. But going by the prices, it looks like Nissan could have a winner on their hands.

For starters, the Magnite looks the part and creates a strong impression at first sight. The bold Nissan grille and full frontal LED lighting gives it presence. The profile looks more crossover than SUV; however Nissan has spruced it up with body cladding, 16-inch dual-tone wheels and a ground clearance of 205mm. The rear end comes with split tail lamps and a butch bumper.

The interior might seem familiar as the layout will remind you of the Renault Triber. However, the Magnite features unique elements such as the Lamborghini-inspired AC vents and a crisp 7-inch digital instrument display. Quality levels can be compared to say a Vitara Brezza, but the Sonet or Venue have set the segment benchmark.

In terms of features, the Magnite comes packed with an 8-inch infotainment system with segment-first wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, cruise control, a 7-inch digital instrument display, and keyless entry with push button start. Safety is covered by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitor.

While the Magnite generally comes across as well loaded, it still misses on important kit such as a sunroof, ventilated front seats as well as side and curtain airbags.

The Magnite can be had with either a 72PS 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 100PS 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor. As standard, it comes with a five speed manual gearbox, however, the turbo-petrol engine can be specced with a CVT. Nope, it won’t be offered with a diesel engine anytime soon.

The Magnite rivals the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and the Mahindra XUV300. What do you think about the Magnite? Would you pick it up over its established rivals? Let us know in the comments.
