Nissan has silently updated its hatchbacks - the Micra, and the Micra Active for 2018. No, we aren’t getting the global-spec hatchback anytime soon. The updates you see here are just to add in some extra value to the Micra’s arsenal. Let’s take a quick look at what’s new:
2018 Nissan Micra
The big change here, is that dual airbags are now standard across the range. Surprisingly enough, ABS isn’t standard yet - the base-spec diesel skips on it. Other additions include rear parking sensors and a parking camera as well. Feed from the rear camera is relayed to a new 6.2-inch touchscreen. This touchscreen doesn’t support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. That said, it does mirror your phone for navigation. There’s not much difference in the way the Micra looks either. Updates include a spoiler, and turn indicators on the rear-view mirrors. Existing features including automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control and steering-mounted audio controls have been carried forward as is.
Engine options, expectedly, remain unchanged. You can pick between a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 77PS and 104Nm and a 1.5-litre diesel that’s good for 64PS and 160Nm. The petrol engine is available exclusively with a CVT, whereas the diesel gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. ARAI-certified fuel efficiency is rated at 19.15kmpl for the petrol and 23.19kmpl for the diesel.
Prices for the 2018 Nissan Micra are as follows -
Petrol
XL CVT Automatic Fashion Edition - Rs 6.19 lakh
XL (O) CVT - Rs 6.42 lakh
XV CVT - Rs 7.61 lakh
Diesel
XL (O) - Rs 7.21 lakh
XV - Rs 7.91 lakh

2018 Nissan Micra Active
The Micra Active too gets the same set of changes. Dual airbags are now standard across the range, while ABS is limited to the top-spec XV variant only. Other additions include turn indicators on the ORVM, a 6.2-inch touchscreen system, and rear parking sensors.
Features such as steering-mounted audio controls, height-adjustable driver’s seat, manual air-conditioning and remote keyless entry are on offer as well. Like before the Active gets a single petrol engine that develops 68PS of power and 104Nm of torque. There’s no CVT on offer here, just a 5-speed manual.
Prices for the 2018 Nissan Micra Active are as follows -
XL - Rs 5.03 lakh
XL (O) - Rs 5.41 lakh
XV - Rs 5.98 lakh

While the Micra might be nowhere close to being a bestseller, it still is a properly well-balanced product. It is showing its age, and is in desperate need of a generation change. Sources suggest Nissan India is busy prepping the Kicks SUV for a January 2019 debut, and will focus on other products later.
