With the current trend of 4-wheeler buyers opting for automatic in lieu of manual transmissions, Nissan Motor India, in a bid to take advantage of this transition, has dropped the prices of the Micra CVT model. With the new revised prices the Micra CVT is claimed by the manufacturer to be the most affordable CVT-equipped premium hatchback in its segment. The vehicle was previously priced from Rs 6.53 lakh to Rs 7.19 lakh. Now, the CVT version of the Micra is available at Rs 5.99 lakh for the base XL model while the top-spec XV variant carries a sticker price of Rs 6.74 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Nissan manufactures the CVT variant of the Micra at its Oragadam Plant in Chennai, and this variant is sold in India and exported to global markets as well. The X-TRONIC CVT automatic transmission by Nissan is claimed to be smoother in operation compared to other CVT gearboxes and more fuel-efficient than manual transmissions. Nissan was also the first manufacturer to introduce CVT technology in the premium hatchback segment in India.
Speaking on the announcement, Arun Malhotra, Managing Director – Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. said: “The Nissan Micra CVT brings new levels of technology, performance and style to the premium hatchback segment in India. Its raft of practical features offer a safer, more enjoyable driving experience that raises the bar in this part of the market. What's more, the attractive price and impressive fuel economy makes it an even more compelling choice in terms of both driving pleasure and value for money.”
The CVT variant of the Nissan Micra is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 76PS of power and 104Nm of peak torque. The Nissan Micra CVT is capable of returning a mileage of 19.34kmpl (as per ARAI tests).
Feature-wise, the Nissan Micra comes loaded with equipment like smart key with push-button stop, steering mounted audio controls, rear LED tail lights and climate control. In terms of safety features, the car comes with speed sensing door locks, dual airbags, Nissan Safety Shield, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).
With revised prices, the Nissan Micra CVT is an attractive buy in the premium hatchback segment. In India, the Micra CVT competes against the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Honda Brio.
