Nissan will be rolling out the new Terrano on March 27, 2017 in India. It comes a long time after the Duster, its twin brother, got its facelift. The Terrano facelift will get an updated front fascia while remaining mechanically similar to the current one. The interiors of the Terrano are in urgent need of a rework as the current setup looks dated and lacks equipment. The Terrano has not really been able to become a crowd favourite and this might be Nissan's last chance to make it click with the buyers.
On the outside, the Terrano will most likely feature a new bumper and grille. The rear will also, at most, get a new bumper. Going by the Industry trend, the Terrano should get LED taillights as well. The Terrano is a handsome looking car but on the inside, things are not quite the same. The layout of the dashboard looks old and desperately needs an update. Even the equipment on the Terrano are from an early 2000’s car. It misses out on basic features like steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system. The facelift is expected to resolve these issues and finally make it a lucrative SUV. Another important change could be a new set of alloys.
Mechanically, the Terrano features a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The diesel is available in two states of tune - 85PS/200Nm and 110PS/248Nm. The former gets a five-speed manual, while the latter gets a six-speed manual and an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine makes 104PS of power and 145Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual.
With these updates, the Terrano will become a worthy contender in the segment. But, Nissan will also have to go aggressive with the pricing to snatch customers from the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster.
