The 27-year old Frenchman, Sebastien Ogier, finished in third place in the 2011 season with Citroen cut off his ties with the French manufacturer and in turn signed a deal with Volkswagen for 2013. Even though Ogier had a good run in the 2011 season, he was not reluctant to show his disappointment towards the team orders given to him in favour of eight-time champion Sebastien Loeb.

Ogier will not be seen in the WRC in 2012 and will spend the entire season in the development of Polo R WRC alongwith his co-driver Julien Ingrassia.

“Volkswagen is the number one in Europe and will soon be number one in the world. I’m sure that they’re going to compete with the goal of clinching the WRC title. And I’m happy to be part of this from the outset,” said Ogier.

Volkwagen Motorsport boss Kris Nissen addd: “We are proud that such a successful and quick duo as Sebastien and Julien have decided to join Volkswagen. The aim of putting a competitive Polo R WRC on the road for them as quickly as possible will additionally drive our team. We look forward to working with them and are hoping for many victories and titles in the future.”

Ogier has surely worked his way up to being a good WRC driver over the years but the Frenchman will soon have to compete with his former team-mate and eight times champion Sebastien Loeb. Can we expect a three way battle among Loeb, Ogier and Mikko Hirvonen in 2013? It all depends on how the VW Polo R car shapes up for the championship, but considering the German giant’s record in Dakar; we can expect an interesting 2013 season.
