Old Cars In Delhi In Fresh Trouble

Cars in Delhi have not had a pleasant few years. The various ambitious steps taken by the government to curb vehicular pollution, like the odd-even rule and the diesel ban, has always resulted in trouble for the owners. And now, even the apex court has ruled in favour of the National Green Tribunal to ban the use of diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years in the National Capital.

While the punishment or the timeline of this ban is yet to announced, the court has ordered the Transport Departments of National Capital Region (NCR) to announce that owners can no longer run these cars on Delhi roads. Now, like you, even we have a lot of unanswered questions, which should be answered today. The body is expected to make an announcement which would lay out a clear set of rules and clarify the doubts of owners.

Some of our key questions that we are looking answers for are:

  • Is there a category for vintage cars, or will all cars fall under a single umbrella?
  • With diesel cars registered for 15 years, will be owners be compensated for the extra tax paid if the life of the cars are cut short by 5 years?
  • Will the government seize a car or just the registration of a car older than the said dates, even if the owner is not running it?
  • Will there be an incentive for scrapping the said vehicles?

If you have more questions, do comment with them below. We will try and answer them in an update.
