There are plenty of thieves out there but we’ve never come across anyone like this 42-year-old chap from Spain. This unnamed guy has definitely got a great taste in cars and was possibly living his life to the fullest. Why? In his possession were 26 cars which may not sound special at first. But taking a look at the list of confiscated cars revealed a variety of homologation rally cars and absolute gems, all of which are hero cars from the 80s and 90s.
It all came to light when the Erzaintza police in Spain was investigating the theft of a three-ton industrial generator. This investigation led them to a woodland farm in the Getaria region of Spain. The police found the stolen generator as well as the truck that was used to steal it. The suspect was also found to be in possession of two firearms, a taser and a substantial amount of money ($10,800 or around Rs 8 lakh). With a bigger picture in sight, the police got a warrant to search the premises, which eventually revealed a shed stashed with drool-worthy cars.
Photos released by the Ertzaintza police department show a tasteful collection of cars in good shape. To give you a clear perspective, without the robbery angle, this would definitely be one of the most tasteful garages in the world. Without beating around the bush, we’ll straight away get into the list of some of the notable models:
E30 BMW M3
E30 BMW M3
Ford Escort RS Cosworth
Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth
Mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo hatchback
Peugeot 205 GTI
What looks like a legit Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione 1 Martini 6
Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth Evolution II in blauschwarz (blue-black) shade
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions (IV, VI, VII, and more along with the holy grail of all EVOs -- the EVO 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition in the iconic Passion Red shade complete with the motorsport livery)
Some of these cars were found with forged chassis numbers and are believed to be stolen from across the continent. The police also believe that these cars may have been headed for some illegal sale or auction, considering their rarity.
Nevertheless, we sincerely hope these cars will head back to their respective owners or end up being auctioned the right way. The thief definitely knows his cars and going by the images, they seem to have been well kept and in storage inside a building. But, at the end of the day, all it took was a three-ton industrial generator!
