Swedish traveler Johan Ernst Nilson will journey across the globe, from the North Pole to the South Pole. Audi lends a helping hand

Johan Ernst Nilson is an environmental explorer and keep interest in climate related issues. After having skillfully completed more than 28 expeditions across 100 countries, his most recent target is to travel from North Pole to South Pole over duration of 12 months. The two poles are separated by violent terrains of 12000km.

Nilson will be commuting by skis, a dog-sled, a sail boat, a bicycle and a kite-sled. Audi’s contribution to this expedition was in the form of a light-weight sled that will make life easier for Nilson while traveling through Antarctica near the South Pole. To make the sled swift, light and easy to take a trip on it has been made out of a special super-light carbon-fiber structure.

Audi lend its test facility to check endurance levels and the capability of withstanding harsh conditions. The test facility is can create certain environmental hazards that Nilson will have to endure during his voyage. Nilson tested his equipment in the Audi Wind Tunnel and Cold Chamber in Ingolstadt, Germany for wild winds and freezing temperatures. Along with the sled, Audi also provides a Q5 as a support vehicle to Nilson during his journey through America.

To ensure the neutralization of carbon-footprints during the course of the journey that cannot be completed without engines will be done by balancing them elsewhere to ensure that the entire trip is carbon-neutral. During the course of his journey, the adventurer plans to lecture at various charity organizations and bring to light the current environmental issues.
