In a first, Porsche has launched its electric bicycle range and the recently unveiled Taycan Cross Turismo abroad. In typical Porsche Design fashion, the electric bikes look drop-dead gorgeous and come with a ridiculous price tag. There are two models: a road-biased Porsche eBike Sport retailing at GBP 9,600 (around Rs 9.68 lakh) and the more ‘affordable’ off-road-centric Porsche eBike Cross costing GBP 7,650 (about Rs 7.71 lakh). The two electric bicycles will be available in markets abroad by the end of this month.
Porsche Design and premium German electric bicycle maker Rotwild joined hands to make these Taycan-inspired e-bicycles in Dieburg, Germany. They are built on a carbon frame linked to a Magura inverted front fork and a Fox rear monoshock. Nested inside the frame is the Shimano EP8 motor with a removable 504Wh lithium-ion battery pack. The ‘Sport’ variant rolls on Continental Speed King road-biased tyres brought to a halt using Magura MCI disc brakes at both ends. It also gets a Shimano electronic 11-gear-shifting system. The bicycle weighs less than 21kg.
On the other hand, the Porsche eBike Cross is designed to tackle the trails with its block-pattern Continental CrossKing tyres and the extra-large, heat-resistant Magura-MT Trail disc brakes at both ends. This one comes with the relatively simple mechanical Shimano XT 12-fold gear-shifting system. However, it’s slightly heavier at 22kg.
Other features include an all-LED headlamp and tail lamp (in the Sport) and a full-colour instrument cluster with a speedometer and remaining-range indicator (on both the electric bicycles). Porsche has also developed a bicycle rack specifically for the Taycan Cross Turismo. Thanks to its 50kg loading capacity, you can carry both electric bicycles.
