Porsche Unveils The Mission E Cross Turismo At Geneva Motor Show 2018

Porsche took to the stage at the Geneva Motor Show 2018 to unveil the new Mission E Cross Turismo concept. This cross version of Porsche’s Mission E concept is a design study built with the outdoorsy types in mind. Want to go snowboarding and cycling but don’t want to attach those ugly carriers and racks on the roof of your car? The Mission E Cross might be the answer you’re looking for, if it sees the inside of the Porsche factory that is.

The main USP of the Cross is its flexible interior that can create space for all sorts of sporting equipment and can even accommodate the Porsche e-bike. It comes with four proper seats and the backrest of each individual seat is equipped with load-through facility, which can be used to load things like skis. The backrests can be folded down altogether to increase boot space, which also houses rails with adjustable straps.

The cabin features a wide dash built with lightweight materials found on racecars. Despite the futuristic aesthetics, the cabin is quintessentially Porsche. The instrument cluster is freestanding but features three circular dials (digital) in typical Porsche fashion. The dash itself houses wide, horizontally placed TFT screens geared both towards the driver and the passenger. The centre console too is similar to the one found in today’s Porsches as it rises towards the dash, but instead of a plethora of buttons and switches, it features touch controls with ambient lighting. It also comes with HUD that despite being in the field of vision is not distracting and uses eye tracking technology. It tracks the movement of the driver’s eyes and can magnify the instrument display the driver is looking at while keeping the others in the background.

In addition to this tech, the Cross also comes with a ‘smart cabin’ which automatically adapts everything from vehicle settings to climate control based on the users’ preferences and driving situations.

The Mission E Cross Turismo measures 4950mm in length and is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors or PSM which together produce over 600PS of max power and can propel the Cross Turismo from 0-100kmph in just 3.5 seconds and breach the 200kmph mark in just 12 seconds. And since it’s a ‘crossover’ it comes with on-demand all-wheel-drive along with Porsche Torque Vectoring which ensures maximum performance on any terrain. The 800 volt lithium-ion battery pack offers over 500km range on a single charge, supports wireless charging and can be charged to provide 400km in just 15 minutes. In addition, it also comes with adaptive air suspension and four-wheel steering.

In terms of aesthetics, it retains the signature fascia of the Mission E and blends it with the high-riding stance of the Macan and the long streamlined shape of the Panamera Sport Turismo. The Mission E, which is the original fully electric Porsche, is set to make its debut in 2020. The Cross Turismo, though it hasn’t been confirmed for production yet, could get the green light soon.
