An almost production-ready version of the 2020 Hyundai i20 has been spied testing in India, revealing more design details of the upcoming model. We could notice new alloy wheels, tail lamps and the revised number plate housing. It will also come with BS6-compliant powertrains and is likely to be showcased at Auto Expo 2020. Earlier spy shots suggested that Hyundai could equip the hatchback with a sunroof. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming hatchback, shall we?
This particular test mule of the 2020 Hyundai i20 reveals plenty of details that could most likely make it to the final production version. The main highlight is the new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that takes some design inspiration from the Tata Tiago! Here’s a picture comparison between the wheels on both models.
The India-spec i20 will also get a split-LED tail lamps like the Euro-spec car while the number plate housing will move back the bumper. Earlier spy shots revealed a wide cascading grille, too. Flanking the grille are projector headlamps that get halogen bulbs rather than LEDs.

The interior of the India-spec 2020 Hyundai i20 is still a mystery. However, the recently spied Euro-spec model comes with sporty-looking digital dials, a big floating infotainment system and a sleek three-spoke steering wheel. It also comes with features like BlueLink connected car tech, cruise control, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers as well as lane hold assist. However, the last feature in this list could be given a miss in India as it depends on radar technology which is banned on Indian highways.
Under the hood, the 2020 Hyundai i20 could come with three BS6 compliant powertrains: two petrols and one diesel option. The petrol engine lineup will consist of the 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa unit and the 125PS 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol motor from the Venue. Diesel variants are likely to be offered with detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDi engine as Hyundai will discontinue the 1.4-litre CRDi engine once BS6 emission norms are implemented.
The next-gen Hyundai i20 is expected to be showcased at Auto Expo 2020. The hatchback is expected to hit showrooms by mid 2020. Expect the upcoming hatchback to be priced more than the current model which starts from Rs 5.53 lakh. The 2020 Hyundai i20 will rekindle its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz and the upcoming Tata Altroz.
