Audi’s next electric car, the e-Tron GT, debuted as a concept in the 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show and boy oh boy, did it steal the show with its swanky looks. And for those of you who wish the production version to look as exciting as the concept, we have some good news. Patent images of the production model have been unearthed and it looks like the carmaker has retained most of the design from the concept.
The e-Tron GT gets a low slung bonnet over the typical Audi single-piece hexagonal grille. Flanking the grille are a set of sleek headlights that will feature futuristic looking LED units. The lower bumper design has been lifted straight off the concept and features aggressive air dams on either side of the grille. The swoopy fastback design may remind some of the Audi A7/RS7, but the e-tron GT has its own character. The clean lines of the e-Tron GT are complemented by the striking, large 5-spoke split alloy wheel design. To top it up, the e-Tron GT gets a muscular haunch above the rear wheel arch, which neatly integrates with the bootlid. Connected tail lamps and an aggressive diffuser in the rear bumper finish off the look.
While the powertrain specification of the production-spec e-Tron GT is yet to be revealed, the concept version featured electric motors on the front and rear axle. These power all four wheels and mimic the signature Audi quattro AWD system. It churns out a total of 598PS, propelling the e-Tron GT concept from 0-100kmph in a claimed 3.5 seconds. 200kmph is reportedly dispatched in just over 12 seconds and the top speed is limited to 240kmph. The e-Tron GT concept draws power from a 90kWH battery that takes up the entire floor pan between the front and rear axle with its flat design. The flat design of the battery pack also gives the e-Tron GT concept a very low centre of gravity, which should theoretically also make it a great handler.
The interior of the production-spec e-Tron GT hasn’t been revealed, but we have the concept car to give us an idea about how it may look. The e-Tron GT concept car featured all the elements of a modern Audi interior - including the latest version of Audi’s ‘Virtual Cockpit’ all-digital instrument cluster and the twin touchscreens on the central console replacing almost all the buttons.

The e-Tron GT is expected to be launched in most international markets by 2021 and take on the Tesla Model S, though we do not know for certain if India is on that list. What we do know is that Audi will launch the all-electric e-Tron SUV here by the end of 2019.
