There’s a new e-bike brand in town, Qubit, and it is taking a rather funky approach with its X1 and X2 e-bikes. These e-bikes have gone on sale in the country at Rs 52,490 and Rs 69,990.
Small e-bikes like these are quite the rage in Europe, America, and other developed nations. What’s interesting about the Qubit X1 and X2 is that these can be folded up, making it easy for you to carry them to your house. The smaller X1 weighs 15.5kg, while the X2 is three kilos heavier.
But can you guess where the battery is? It is where you’d sit, rather inside the seat post, to be precise. Both e-bikes are powered by the same 36V 5.8AH battery. With pedal assistance, this small battery is enough to last around 30-35km.
The primary differences between the X1 and X2 lie in the wheel size, gear train and placement of the 250W hub motor. The former runs on small 16-inch wheels, a plain basic single-speed pedalling system with the motor in the front wheel. The X2 gets larger 20-inch wheels, a 7-speed Shimano Tourney rear derailleur and a rear wheel-mounted hub motor. Top speed in pure electric mode is restricted to 25kmph.
The prices are on the higher side, especially considering that e-bikes start from Rs 40,000 and offer better range. However, these two shine in the convenience department. You can easily fold them up and carry them to your office (when they eventually open) or home. But is this benefit enough to justify the slight premium? We hope to find out soon.
