Jaguar Land Rover has launched the locally assembled Range Rover Evoque in India. The Tata Motors-owned luxury carmaker announced that the Range Rover Evoque will be assembled at its manufacturing facility in Pune to further strengthen the company’s presence in the local market. The Evoque will be the fourth vehicle to join the Freelander 2, Jaguar XF and XJ at the Pune plant.
The stylish Range Rover Evoque was being imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and attracted over 170 per cent taxes and duties, making it a pricey option in this segment. The price of the compact Land Rover ranged from Rs 55.37 lakh for the base Range Rover Evoque Pure SD4 to a whopping Rs 65.48 lakh for the petrol powered Dynamic Si4 Coupe version. (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The sporty Range Rover Evoque will be equipped with a 2.2-litre SD4 diesel engine churning out 140PS of power at 3,500rpm and 420Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm. It will be offered in three variants: Pure, Dynamic and Prestige. All derivatives will be available with automatic transmission and will include standard features such as front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, navigation system, fixed panoramic sunroof and terrain response system.
The Tata Motors-owned luxury carmaker claims that production of cars at its Pune plant has tripled since its inauguration in 2011. The company further states that this latest development in this production facility comes as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s plans to expand its manufacturing footprint globally.
Commenting on the launch, Rohit Suri, President, Jaguar Land Rover India, said, “We believe that India is a market that offers significant opportunities for both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. I am pleased to announce the broadening of our locally manufactured portfolio, with the introduction of the Range Rover Evoque. It is already very popular with Indian customers and we will now offer this SUV at an even more competitive price point starting at Rs 48.73 lakh, Ex-Showroom Mumbai (Pre-Octroi). This will enable us to access a wider audience which consists of discerning and premium Indian customers who have always loved the brand, aspired to own this SUV and be seen in it. Our investment in the Pune facility demonstrates our continued long-term commitment to the Indian market.”
The locally-manufactured Range Rover Evoque is now available for sale with deliveries expected to begin from early April 2015.
Prices for the three derivatives are as follows:
