When it was launched in 2012, the Renault Duster was quick to find its way into the hearts of the junta. In fact, it was the car that introduced the idea of compact SUVs in India. But since then it hasn’t quite got an update since then and with cars like the New Age Mahindra XUV 500 launched recently, the Duster is starting to show its age. However Renault has already made plans to ensure that the Duster gives these newbies a tough fight to the finish.
Renault Brazil unveiled a facelifted version of the popular compact SUV earlier this year with minor changes on the exterior as well as on the inside. But along with the cosmetic changes the updated Duster is also expected to come with an automatic transmission. With the traffic on the streets increasing rapidly, the demand for automatic cars is constantly on the rise, especially automatic SUVs. Although in India the Duster is offered in just a 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmission, Renault also offers an option of a 6-speed CVT in Brazil. In India too the Duster is expected to get the same gearbox.
However, the launch of the facelifted Duster and the automatic variant is only expected to be towards the end of the year or early next year as Renault is concentrating all its energies on making a strong entry into the small car segment with the Kwid.
