As we mentioned in our exclusive story last month, Renault has now launched a new petrol automatic variant of the Duster at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The CVT transmission has been launched with a new 1.5-litre petrol engine and the 1.6-litre gasoline unit has been eliminated from the lineup. The 1.5-litre petrol is also available with a 5-speed manual, which starts from Rs 8.49 lakh. With the addition of this transmission, the Duster is now available in 5 different powertrains options - petrol manual (2WD), petrol automatic (2WD), diesel manual (2WD), diesel automatic (2WD), and diesel manual (4WD). Prices of the variants are given below (ex-showroom, Delhi).

With the introduction of the new petrol lineup, the Duster is now also available in a 'Fiery Red' colour option. Other than that, the RXS trim in which the CVT has been introduced gets features like gunmetal-finished alloy wheels, carbon cubic-print ORVMs, side and tailgate decals, red interior accents, integrated 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system without navigation, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill-Start Assist.
The new 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Duster lineup produces 106PS at 5,600rpm and 142Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. This engine is also available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and delivers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 14.19 kmpl in manual and 14.99 kmpl with the CVT. The diesel 1.5-litre engine churns out 85PS at 3,750rpm and 200Nm at 1,750rpm in the lower tune and 110PS at 4,000rpm and 245Nm at 1,750rpm in the more powerful tune. The lower tune is available with a 5-speed manual and the more powerful one is available with a 6-speed manual, AMT and manual 4WD powertrain options.
The Duster has always been a popular SUV and now with the introduction of the petrol CVT, Renault has managed to make it appeal to an even wider audience. The Duster goes head-to-head with the likes of the Hyundai Creta and its brother from a different manufacturer - the Nissan Terrano. Stay tuned for a detailed review of the Renault Duster Petrol CVT.
