Renault’s Facelifted Duster Is Now BS6 Compliant... But With Many...

Renault has reduced the prices of three variants of the Duster SUV. The diesel 85PS RXS, 110PS RXS, and 110PS RXS AWD models are now priced at Rs 9.29 lakh, Rs 9.99 lakh, and Rs 10.99 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Delhi). This is bittersweet news for us petrolheads -- while our favourite all-wheel-drive model is now more affordable, it will not live past the BS6 deadline.
The Duster has a total of 9 variants but the prices of only the mid-spec diesel variants have been reduced. Surprisingly, the top-spec 110PS RXZ and 110PS RXZ AMT trims do not get a price revision. Neither does the base diesel 85PS RXE, which is now priced similar to the 85PS RXS.

Renault has no plans to update the 1.5-litre dCi diesel motor to BS6. The Renault Lodgy MPV is only sold with the dCi diesel engine and will be discontinued. Renault’s decision doesn’t surprise us. The high cost of updating the 1.5 dCi to BS6 would likely have increased the diesel Duster’s price further than the current Rs 9.30 to 12.50 lakh. Unlike its competition, the Duster cannot avail the excise benefits that sub-4m SUVs enjoy.
The Duster has been one of Renault’s most popular models in India. While petrol Dusters are likely to be updated to BS6 and will live on, only the diesel 110PS RXS AWD model is equipped with all-wheel-drive. The Duster has always been one of the least expensive SUVs on sale in India to offer AWD. We are sad to see the diesel Duster go but we hope Renault will focus on improving the petrol variants of the compact SUV. And what about the turbo petrol-powered facelifted Duster, Renault?
