Renault India has just launched the updated Fluence. The new Fluence is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh for the base E2 variant and Rs 15.49 lakh for the top-end E4 variant, all prices ex-showroom Delhi.
The Fluence gets revised front end styling that is dominated by the large chromed Renault badge, a new headlamp cluster and a more aggressive bumper. The bumper houses new fog lamps and LED daytime running lights. The fluence also receives a new alloy wheel design. The rest of the car remains the same as before on the outside.
The new Fluence gets a Arkamys audio system sending 3d surround sound into the cabin via four speakers and four tweeters, dual zone air-conditioning, a soft touch dashboard, chrome inserts, front and rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD and brake assist. The top end Fluence gets ESP and side chest level airbags in addition to the front airbags on the base variant. Other tech includes dusk sensing headlamps and rain sensing wipers, cruise control, rear AC vents, the top –end Fluence does come with all the bells and whistles.
Under the hood is the 1.5-litre direct injection 4-cylinder diesel engine developing 110PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1850 rpm. The diesel mill comes mated to a six speed manual gearbox.
When Renault launched the Fluence in 2011, the diesel was woefully short on equipment while the petrol model came fully kitted. The petrol didn’t sell too well and a top-end version of the diesel was the market demand. The petrol variant was discontinued while the diesel FLuence was marginalized as Renault wasn’t a popular brand then. But with the Duster changing Renault’s fortunes in India, the Fluence should now with its frugal diesel engine (20.4kmpl ARAI figure), a long equipment list and a striking design be able to garner more interest in the premium sedan segment.
