Renault has entered the most populated sub-4m SUV segment with the Kiger. While it faces heavy competition from the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet and the Hyundai Venue, the Kiger is aiming to make its mark. It follows in the footsteps of the car it shares its platform with, the Nissan Magnite, which has made a lasting impression with its aggressive pricing.

The Kiger comes with two 1.0-litre petrol engine options: 72PS/96Nm naturally aspirated and 100PS/160Nm turbo-petrol motors. Both these engines power the Nissan Magnite as well.
Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The naturally aspirated variants get an AMT and a CVT for the turbo-petrol variants.
The Ecosport’s 1.5-litre engine puts out the most power, at 122PS, while the XUV300’s unit is the torquiest at 200Nm.
The Renault Kiger joins the Nissan Magnite, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza as the only models in the segment that do not offer a diesel option.

Like the Magnite, the Kiger undercuts the rest of the segment with prices starting from Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom).
The introductory price of the Kiger makes it the most affordable sub-4m SUV in India.
Considering the response to the Nissan Magnite, the pricing of the Kiger, in addition to what it has to offer, makes it a hot prospect in what is otherwise a very competitive segment.
