  • Interior spy shots reveal what looks like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and dual-tone dashboard.
  • Likely to be powered by the Kwid’s 1.0-litre petrol unit mated with an AMT.
  • Codenamed RBC, the upcoming MPV is based on the CMF-A platform, which also underpins the Kwid.

Renault is working on a budget MPV offering for India, based on the Kwid. And thanks to the latest spy shots, we have got the first glimpses of the interiors of the upcoming Renault. Codenamed the RBC, the MPV has a footprint similar to the Datsun Go+, but looks relatively taller. Thanks to earlier spy shots, we already had a fair sense of what the RBC looks like on the outside. However, the latest spy shots reveal the cabin of the upcoming Renault MPV for the first time.

In the latest interior shots, you can see the prominence of the grey-and-beige interior theme with chrome inserts on the gear knob and instrument cluster as well. It features a three-spoke steering wheel, reminiscent of the one seen on the Nissan Kicks. The instrument cluster also looks revamped compared to the Kwid. It is likely to be an analogue-digital setup, rather than the all-digital unit seen on the Kwid.

Also seen on the test mule are electrically adjustable ORVMs, a rear washer and wiper, a touchscreen infotainment system that looks larger than 7 inches (probably the Nissan Kicks’ 8-inch unit), and more than two airbags. We expect features like the touchscreen infotainment system and four airbags to be limited to the top-spec variant though.

Like the Datsun Go+, the RBC is also likely to feature a seven-seat configuration. However, we are yet to get any photographic evidence of the same. Speaking of seats, the ones at the front feature fabric upholstery. The wheels appear to be 15-inch steel wheels, but we also expect it to get alloy wheels in the top variant.

Under the hood, the Renault MPV is likely to come with a petrol engine only. It could get a 1.0-litre or a 1.2-litre unit. But the latest set of spy images confirm that Renault will offer it with both manual and automatic transmission options. The automatic version is likely to feature Renault’s Easy-R AMT, seen on the Kwid, which hints at it featuring the 1.0-litre engine from the hatchback.

Expected to go on sale in the first half of 2019, with prices starting from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom), the RBC won’t have any direct rivals but will slot in between the updated Datsun GO+ and the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

The Datsun GO+ is priced from Rs 3.83 lakh to Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Ertiga is priced between Rs 7.44 lakh and Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Pricing will be the most crucial aspect for the success of the Kwid MPV in India and depending on it, the upcoming Renault can carve its own niche in the Indian market.
