Renault has finally launched the Kwid facelift at a starting price of Rs 2.83 lakh, going all the way to Rs 4.84 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The refreshed hatchback is longer, has better ground clearance, and sports a host of changes inside and out. It retains the 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engine options, both still BS4 compliant. The 0.8-litre develops 54PS and 72Nm while the larger 1.0-litre engine develops 68PS and 91Nm. Transmission options remain unchanged with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT exclusive to the 1.0-litre unit. During our road test of the outgoing model, we found that while it is not the smoothest AMT in its segment, it is ideal for high traffic situations in the city.
The Renault Kwid facelift is offered in a total of five trim options: STD, RXE, RXL, RXT and Climber. Out of these, which is the ideal pick? Here’s a detailed analysis of each of the variants offered :
1 STD
Price: Rs 2.83 lakh
We start off with the bare-bones STD variant in the Kwid facelift’s lineup. Standard feature highlights include body-coloured bumpers, LED DRLs, LED taillamps and LED Digital Instrument Cluster. It also features a gear shift indicator heater, sun visor(driver), ticket holder, mobile storage, wallet storage and reclinable front seats. The safety kit in this variant consists of reverse parking sensors, driver airbag, ABS + EBD driver and passenger seatbelt reminder, speeding alert, and rear door child lock.
It misses out on features such as an AC unit, electric power steering, front power windows, 12v socket and an infotainment system. Other misses include remote keyless entry, rear power windows, rear parcel tray full wheel covers as well as passenger airbags. This trim is ideal for those on a tight budget looking for a simplistic buy.
2 RXE
Price: Rs 3.53 lakh
The second variant in Kwid’s lineup gets all the features from the STD variant with only a minor upgrade. The additional kit includes an AC unit, body decals, sun visor (co-driver), 2 front speakers and an antenna. It still misses out on many key features such as an infotainment system, full wheel covers, power steering, passenger airbags, remote keyless entry as well as front and rear skid plates.
3- RXL
Price: Rs 3.83 lakh
The third variant of the facelifted hatchback gets a bigger upgrade in the form of features such as silver two-tone ORVMs, silver wheel covers, white stitched metal fabric upholstery and electric power steering. It also features front power windows, 12v socket(front) and cabin light with theatre dimming. The RXL also offers a single DIN stereo music system with Radio MP3, USB/AUX-IN ports and bluetooth connectivity.
This variant lacks the kit that includes graphite grille with chrome inserts, dark metal two-tone OVRMs, dark metal wheel covers, crossway fabric upholstery, and chrome inserts on various interior kit (steering wheel, AMT dial, parking brake lever release button, inner door handle and HVAC control panel). It also lacks features such as rear power windows, 12v socket(rear), intermittent front wiper as well as reverse parking, passenger airbags and a touchscreen infotainment system.
4- RXT
Price: Rs 4.13 lakh( 0.8-litre), Rs 4.33 lakh(1.0-litre), Rs 4.63 ( 1.0-litre AMT Option)
The fourth trim gets an upgrade that is more akin to the higher-end variant of the hatchback. This trim is offered with the 0.8-litre, 1.0-litre manual and 1.0-litre AMT options. It gets an additional kit that includes graphite grille with chrome inserts, crossway fabric upholstery, and chrome inserts on the interior kit (steering wheel, gear knob dial, parking brake lever release button, inner door handle and HVAC control panel). The other additional kit features an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play, Android Auto and push-to-talk (voice recognition). It also gets a rear parcel tray, 12v socket (rear), fast USB charger intermittent front wipers and a reverse parking camera.
The 1.0-litre AMT option also gets exclusive additions such as dark metal two-tone OVRMs, dark metal wheel covers, rear power windows (optional), and a passenger airbag (optional). This trim only misses out on rugged cosmetic additions such as orange inserts on various areas (roof-rails, skid plates, ORVMs, upholstery and gear knob).
5- Climber
Price: Rs 4.54 lakh (MT), Rs 4.84 lakh (AMT)
We finally head to the top-spec Climber trim of the hatchback. It is only available with a 1.0-litre petrol mill and is more of a rugged upgrade over the RXT. The additional kit includes orange inserts on various areas (headlamp protector, roof-rails, skid plates, ORVMs, upholstery and gear knob), volcanic grey multi-spoke wheels, front and rear skid plates optional rear-power windows (AMT only) and optional passenger airbag (AMT only).
The refreshed Kwid takes on the likes of the Datsun redi-GO and the recently launched Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in India.
