Iconic ultra-luxury car maker Rolls-Royce is introducing a special wedding edition of the two salons it sells in India - the Ghost and the Phantom - to woo India's super-rich. Having seen that almost a tenth of its cars that are sold in India are gifted largely during the wedding season, Rolls Royce has launched an especially hand-crafted model for the occasion.
Herfried Hasenoehrl, GM, emerging markets - Asia, told ET the wedding edition is a car introduced based on customer requests. "The wedding season begins on October 30. Requests have started coming in and there are two couples right now who are talking to our dealers about giving personal touches to the cars they want."
Apart from choosing their own colours and veneers, customers can have special engraving in specific places within the interiors with their names embossed.
Rolls Royce currently sells the Ghost salon for between 2.5 and 3 crore and its flagship model Phantom for around 4.5 crore.
Indians bought an estimated 100 super-luxury cars in 2011; that number which is expected to grow by 50 per cent in 2012.
Having sold over 200 cars in India since 2005, Rolls Royce sees potential to sell 130 to 150 cars annually by 2015.
"India has the potential to be the largest market in Asia Pacific by 2015 from its current number three position," said Hasenoehrl.
