Royal Enfield Continental GTs at Bonneville Speed Week

Ace performance tuner and former motorcycle champion racer Matt Capri has prepared two souped-up Royal Enfield Continental GTs to participate in the Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The two bikes have undergone major modifications to cam shafts, cylinder heads, throttle bodies, pistons and exhaust systems. The compression ratio has been increased from 8:1 to 12:1 and a new sophisticated electronic fuel injection system has been fitted on the bikes.

"The great thing about the Continental GT is its chassis and its price point. If you choose to increase the horsepower output , the chassis will handle the additional horsepower. The brakes are exceptional, the frame is exceptional, and it comes with advanced rear suspension. The engine is bullet proof with hydraulic lifters, pushrod motor, lots of torque and responds very quickly to some small changes. For example, cam shafts can be put in without taking the basic engine apart. You can also change the cylinder heads very quickly," Matt Capri said in a video, talking about the modifications.

Capri added that the bikes will have almost double the power available on production motorcycles.

The Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats was originally scheduled for August 9-15, but heavy rain in the region and inundation of the entire course led to the event being cancelled. The main event organizers, Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) has said in a statement that the next event – World Finals (September 30 – October 3), will be extended to a full week event (September 27-October 3) as a sort of delayed Speed Week.

Indeed, a proud event for Royal Enfield. And we are too, and waiting to see how the bikes do in their speed runs. For now, however, there's been no official comment from Royal Enfield, despite several attempts to reach the company.
