It was only recently that we had spotted the upcoming twin-cylinder Royal Enfield being tested, and now we have come across yet another spy picture that shows two different models with a fuel-injected, parallel-twin, oil-cooled motor that may showcase a displacement of around 800cc with a power output of around 45bhp while peak torque could be in the range of about 60Nm. The bikes also look more production ready here.
The first bike seen in the image is a cafe racer, which has been spotted earlier on many occasions, while the second one is a variant we have come across for the first time. This new design seems to be a more basic version of the GT, built around the same chassis.
The key differentiating elements between the two are the fuel tank and the seat, which also indicate the fact that instead of offering an additional pillion seat with the GT, RE plans to offer a completely new variant with the same engine option. Clearly defining the focus of usage between the two motorcycles.
Further differentiating the two bikes is the more upright, single-piece handlebar on the standard variant instead of clip-ons seen on the cafe racer. The footpegs are also positioned to offer a comparatively comfortable position on the standard variant, as the pegs seem to be placed closer to the engine, which should make for a more comfortable riding posture. The standard bike's tank is also more rounded, like the one seen on the Thunderbird, except for the fact that this one gets knee recesses. Other than that, the mechanicals seen on both the bikes seem to be the same, including the suspension and brakes. The bikes are likely to be equipped with twin-channel ABS and the wheels are wrapped with Pirellis, likely a 120-section unit at the front and 160-section rear.
We reckon the bikes seen here shall be making their debut at EICMA, Milan this November, followed by the India launch in 2018. The speculated pricing is between Rs 3.5 – 4 lakhs and once launched, the cafe racer should take on the likes of the Harley Davidson Street Rod 750, while the Standard variant will take on the likes of the Triumph Street Twin.
