Buoyed by the launch of the radically different Himalayan and a host of community-building activities, Royal Enfield continues to grow despite its products having a much more niche appeal than most Indian motorcycle manufacturers. The Chennai-based manufacturer, one of the oldest in the world still in operation today, posted sales of 51,320 motorcycles in combined domestic wholesale and exports in March 2016. This represents a growth of 52% over the same period last year.
Royal Enfield sold 33,679 motorcycles in March 2015. Domestic sales recorded an increase of 52.4% at 50,059 units during the month, as compared to 32,854 units during March, 2015. Exports has seen a growth of 52.85% to 1261 units as against 825 units same month last year.
The total sales during the first three months of 2016 stood at 6,00,998 units as against 3,95,437 units during the same period of last year, registering 52% growth.
Commenting on the surge in sales, Rudratej Singh, President Royal Enfield said “Reaching sales of over fifty thousand motorcycles in a single month is a significant milestone for Royal Enfield. We approximately manufactured a similar number of motorcycles in 2010 that goes on to show our focus and hard work that we have put in all these years. Royal Enfield also has been expanding its production commensurately to meet its customer’s expectations to own and ride our motorcycles at the soonest. Royal Enfield’s simple yet evocative motorcycles have been aspirational yet accessible that provides a pure motorcycling experience to our customers. This experience has created strong demand for our motorcycles that continues to grow our order books.”
Last month, Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan, a motorcycle purpose-built for adventure and touring. With an an on-road price of Rs. 1,73 lakh in New Delhi, the Himalayan represents a paradigm shift not just for its manufacturer but Indian leisure motorcycling at large. The Himalayan is available in two signature colour options—Granite and Snow, and is open for bookings across all Royal Enfield dealerships across the country in a phased manner.
