Royal Enfield Unveils First Ever Factory-Built Custom Bikes

In India, Royal Enfield motorcycles are unanimously known for being the most preferred two-wheelers for custom modifications. Now, for the first time, the manufacturer has revealed two factory-built custom bikes. Both these custom motorcycles have been built in the UK and were showcased at the Wheels & Waves custom bike show in Biarritz, France from 8 to 12 June.

Both the RE motorcycles have been built with a completely different mindset. The first is the 'Dirty Duck' which refers to a vehicle for off-road purpose with 'survive anything' capabilities. The latter is a custom RE motorcycle with a turbocharger mounted on the Classic 500 motor. The bike draws inspiration from a dragster and has been christened as Mo' Powa'.

Royal Enfield Dirty Duck:

This bike's main attraction is the deep-water wading snorkels so that it can pass through rivers without the engine struggling for breath. The company says that the Dirty Duck projects the utilitarian toughness and the lines of the Continental GT it’s based on helped to achieve that. The bike sports chunky Continental TKC80 tyres on the factory rims to accentuate the off-road theme. It also has an aluminium sump-guard to protect the underbody, engine and transmission from any damage from below. Also, the overall chassis length of the custom motorcycle has been shortened to make provision for a luggage rack.

Royal Enfield says: “The snorkel is without a doubt the highlight of this motorcycle which has been hand crafted by the extraordinary craftsmen at Harris Performance. Additionally, the airbox has been modified to allow the passage of the straight-through exhaust.”

Royal Enfield Mo’ Powa’:

Yes, it's turbocharged. This custom model made from a Royal Enfield Classic 500 motorcycle takes the inclination towards a drag bike. The engine has been bolted with a turbocharged for more power while the swingarm has been borrowed from the Continental GT to increase the wheelbase of the bike. Other upgrades include lowered forks with stiffer springs, flattened handlebars and the K-Tech twin rear shocks mounted on lower mounts which completes the look of a dragster.

Apart from the addition of a turbocharger, the company has skipped fuel injection for this model and has opted for a carburetted fueling system. The airbox of the motorcycle has been ditched while some gauges on the stock bike have been replaced with a boost gauge and an air-fuel meter. 

For other cycle parts, the front wheel section has been kept as it is while the rear get a much thicker rim. Surprisingly, in spite of being a drag focussed bike, it features Continental TKC70 knobby tyres. It can be considered that in the world of custom bikes, looks are given the first preference as to performance. The custom motorcycle also features a unique exhaust system that was constructed from many small sections due to the tight bends involved in the design. The system has been fabricated by Harris Performance who are more associated with MotoGP exhaust systems than for custom motorcycles.
