Just when Safari fans were starting to settle down with the advent of the Storme, Tata Motors decided to get just a little bit more adventurous with their SUV. A separate Explorer Edition now joins the model line-up, and will basically offers added bells and whistles to outdoor enthusiasts.
To spot what’s so different on the Explorer Edition model from the outside, you will need to take a closer look at the sturdier front nudge guard, the ‘Explorer Edition’ decals on the bonnet and on the side of the vehicle. Specially designed door visors on the special edition model also allow occupants to keep their windows slightly open at higher speeds.
The more utilitarian aspects of this particular Safari model are a customized cycle carrier, a cargo basket for added storage space and a roof-mounted Canopylets for turning the off-roader into a make-shift home in the wilderness.
The interiors of the Explorer Edition have also been spruced up with a new 2-DIN TouchScreen Infotainment System that supports iPod, iPhone, USB sticks, memory cards and portable hard disk connectivity. The on-screen reverse parking assist feature and a robust navigation system complete the Explorer Edition driver assistance package quite nicely.
Powered by the Safari Storme's 2.2-litre VariCOR turbocharged engine with VTT (Variable Turbine Technology) delivering 140PS power & 320Nm torque the new Explorer Edition starts at Rs 10,86,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and will be available at all Tata Motors showrooms.
