Thanks to the growing rate of air pollution in metro cities the Delhi government has announced that all new two-wheelers that fail to comply with Bharat Stage-IV emission norms cannot be registered in the city. As a result, the recently launched Bajaj Auto V15 and new Suzuki Access have been denied from registration in Delhi. Also, Royal Enfield has faced the same problem with the Himalayan which is BS-III compliant and hence cannot be registered in Delhi.
The Delhi government announced the ban only two months prior to the implementation of the changes, providing very less time for manufacturers to make engines BS-IV compliant. The alteration to make vehicles compliant to BS-IV requires time and resources and major changes to the mechanicals for which sufficient time is required. In the whole conflict between the manufacturers and the Delhi Government, it is lastly the average buyer who suffers in the end.
The manufacturers have asked for some kind of a decision from the Delhi government that will cover both the issues. The decision to implement BS-IV was felt necessary thansk to the alarming percentage of polluted air in the capital city skies. Also to be taken into consideration is that two-wheelers contribute as much as five times more than four-wheelers in forming the carbon-footprint.
Currently, buyers who have the luxury of owning a property in the states surrounding Delhi can resort to having their vehicles registered in neighbouring states like Haryana or Uttar Pradesh. At present, there is no law which denies vehicles registered from other states to be used in Delhi for transportation.
