Tata Group, as we know, is one of the biggest conglomerates in India. The most renowned entity of the group, Tata Motors, is the largest automaker in the country. TAL Manufacturing Solutions Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Motors, launched India’s first industrial-articulated robot today. Christened TAL Brabo, it is India’s first industrially articulate robot which is proven to optimize manufacturing practices and bring down the costs.
It is currently available in two variants, with payloads of 2kg and 10 kg, and is priced between Rs 5-7 lakh. The company says that the robot is proven to increase productivity by 15-30 per cent and will recover its cost within a period of 15-18 months. TAL Brabo is a ‘Made in India’ solution for micro, small and medium scale manufacturers. It can also be useful in large scale industries who are after cost-effective automated solutions in production.
At this price, the company confirms that the TAL Brabo will be 30-40 per cent cheaper than comparable products from the competition. While the robot was designed and styled in-house at TAL Manufacturing and Tata Elxsi respectively, Tata AutoComp manufactured some of the critical components of the Brabo. The robot can be programmed to perform various tasks including machine & press tending, welding, sealant application, material handling, end of line packaging, vision based application, deburring and assembly application.
TAL Manufacturing Solutions Ltd. sees huge potential for such intelligent and automated manufacturing solutions in countries like India and China. The total world market, as per the company, for industrial robots is 3,00,000 units per annum. India, at 2,500 units/year, constitutes to less than 1 per cent of that. The average robot density (per 10,000 employees) in every country globally is clocked at 69. China is at 36 and India stands at 2.
TAL has tested the Brabo in over 50 customer work streams till date. The company is now ready to supply this automated workforce to different sectors such as automotive, light engineering, precision machining, electronics, software testing and Aerospace engineering. TAL has already delivered 25 such robots within India and are currently building 30 more for another order. Its clientele includes Mahindra and Mahindra, Mutha Group, Tata Motors, Micromax Systems, John Deere and Larsen & Tuobro.
