The Swedes are clearly on the offensive. After having launched the S90 luxury saloon for a delicious price, Volvo is looking at kicking things up a notch. Sources close to the manufacturer confirm that new cars are on their way very soon. Which new cars, you ask?
Volvo XC90 R-Design:
After launching the top-spec Excellence variant in the T8 plug-in hybrid guise, Volvo will add yet another variant to the SUV’s arsenal - the R-Design. Now, this variant will be cosmetically souped up, for that added sporty flair. Additions on the exteriors include a different grille and front spoiler, a bunch of brushed silver accents, and 20-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, there are R-Design-specific details such as sports seats, pedals, floor mats and illuminated tread plates.
Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country:
The facelifted version of Volvo's most affordable offering is on its way to India as well. The V40 and its adventurous avatar, the V40 Cross Country, now get a new face that includes Volvo's new trademark design traits - the concave grille as well as the 'Thor's Hammer' LED headlamps. The interiors and the engine options will remain unchanged.
S60 Polestar:
Oh yes! You read that right. The S60's evil avatar, the Polestar, is on the menu as well. The highlight, of course, is the Drive-E 2.0-litre motor that belts out 367 horses and 467Nm. It also features a host of Polestar-specific details, which include a different set of bumpers, bigger wheels, and that gorgeous Polestar Blue shade.
V90 CrossCountry:
Here's my personal favourite of the lot. The V90 is based on the same platform as the XC90 and the S90. It will feature the same 2.0-litre motor - possibly in the D4 avatar- that develops 190PS and 400Nm. The estate gets an additional 65mm of ground clearance and a bunch of matte-black cladding in the CrossCountry avatar, which is always welcome in a country like India. It will also borrow the all-wheel-drive system from the XC90 and feature the same 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The facelifted V40 range, the Polestar S60 and the XC90 R-Design are expected to go on sale within the next couple of months. The V90 is expected to make its debut in the first half of next year.
